On their website, e-Rewards defines itself as an online opinion panel that contributes widely to market research for the companies and brands they work with. This is an elaborate way of describing what most websites with paid surveys do, which means that we will have to explore a bit deeper into the world of e-Rewards to determine whether the time you spend on it will be worthy or not.
Overview of e-Rewards
Market research consists in gathering data and information about what consumers and users of a certain product, brand, or service think of it. What e-Rewards does is offer its members the possibility of sharing their opinions regarding these clients of theirs, and paying consumers with e-Rewards currency for the time they spend. This currency can then be exchanged for prizes that will be described in detail later on in the article.
The general idea is simple: If you happen to be an appropriate subject for a certain survey, your product and brand feedback, your habits as a consumer, and even your perception of competitive brands will be traded by the website for a number of rewards that you can choose according to what you like best.
How can you join?
Here is where problems with e-Rewards begin. The only way to join the website and its advantages is by invitation. Yes, it is a free enrollment, but you cannot sign up for an account if you happen to just stumble upon the site. You need to be invited by one of what they call “partners,” which are nothing more than the companies and brands e-Rewards works with.
Given the chance that you provided your email address to one of these partners, there is a small possibility that you might get invited. However, this will not only demand time in order to make extensive research of which companies e-Rewards works with, but it won´t guarantee that you get invited to the survey program.
To put it in a clear way: If you got invited to e-Rewards, give it a chance. If you haven´t, it is a better idea just to forget about it completely and turn to other paid survey websites instead.
What is their survey system?
An important thing to have in mind once you are a member of e-Rewards is that you must be a legal resident of the United States in order to redeem certain prizes.
After receiving the invitation, you will be asked to fill out the account´s information with your personal data, such as name, address, and date of birth. Then, you will have a total of 30 days to complete an enrollment survey that will help e-Rewards and its partners determine your profile and which surveys it matches.
This is a mandatory step, and the surveys you will be receiving in your email will depend on the information you provide.
Once this is done, e-Rewards will start sending surveys and market studies directly to your email address to give you the chance of completing them and gaining Opinion Points, which is the e-Rewards currency.
When you receive a survey, you will have 30 days to answer the questions before it expires, although some users have reported that even through the broken link of the past survey they sent, you can still gain access to the new web address of the survey, allowing you to finish it whenever you want.
Which prizes can you obtain with e-Rewards?
Once you have gained enough Opinion Points, you can start exchanging them for gift cards, online or printed magazine subscriptions, hotel reward points, and even airline miles. The lowest gift card option for e-Rewards is $10, which means you will have to achieve this amount before asking for any type of reward.
The website offers over 50 different retailers with whom you can redeem your gift cards, and has a very simple platform that allows you to choose your recompense by category, amount of money, or company, all through their Reward Center, which you can access from your member account.
With about $60 worth of points, you can redeem a $25 gift card. This means that the real worth of every dollar you get when you finish a survey is about $.41. This can be quite confusing but it is actually very common among paid survey sites, so you need to be aware of the fact that the amount of Opinion Points your account depicts is worth slightly less than half of that in gift cards.
The companies from which you can acquire gift cards are many, and include:
- A. C. Moore Arts & Crafts
- Best Buy
- Denny´s American Diner
- Flying Blue (Air France / KLM) Miles
- Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air Miles
- Choice Privileges Rewards, which include Sleep Inn, Comfort Inn, and Comfort Suites hotel points
- American Airlines and United Airlines Miles
- eBags Gift Cards
- Numerous magazine titles like Allure, Sunset, Better Homes & Gardens, GQ, ESPN magazine, Golf, Vogue, Travel + Leisure, and many more
- Starbucks gift cards
These are only a third of the gift cards and rewards you can obtain from e-Rewards as they really offer an extensive list of companies to get rewards from. In addition, you can also exchange your currency for “prizes,” which are basically discounts you get when purchasing products or services the website provides.
This is a market research panel that does exactly that: It allows you to be part of certain studies in the form of surveys that help them offer useful information about consumer habits and opinions to the companies and brands the website works with.
e-Rewards will send you an email weekly with one survey that fits your profile, and the good thing is that if you missed it, you can still click on the link they provided in the email, even if the survey is not there, because it will lead you straight to where the survey currently is, allowing you to gain the opinion points anyway.
A great thing about e-Rewards surveys is that they tend to pay above the industry standard, as well. Some users have confirmed obtaining up to $14 for one single survey, and although this is highly rare, it is something to praise.
Along with this, you can also log into your member account and have the chance to fill out other surveys that have not been sent to your email, meaning you are able to complete at least one survey a day to gain extra Opinion Points.
Finally, the reward currency hits your account pretty fast compared to most of the rest paid survey websites. They usually take a day or less to give you full access to the Opinion Points, allowing you to exchange it rapidly for gift cards.
The main issue with e-Rewards is that you cannot access it if you have not been invited. If you want to be a member of the panel, you will have to find your way in, which is not impossible, but can take extra time.
Another negative thing about e-Rewards is that you cannot make money with it. This is a website that will not allow you to transfer your money to PayPal, Visa or MasterCard, and it also doesn´t give you the option of receiving a check. The only way through which you can obtain the money you have gained from filling surveys is through gift cards and discounts for purchases. This is not a good thing if you are planning to make money out of the surveys you take, but if you only want to use their currency for a yearly magazine subscription, then you might be on the right track.
In addition, e-Rewards never tells you how long the survey they supply you with will take, which can actually take more than 30 minutes to finish with the high risk of being screened out of it if, at the very end, they decide that your profile does not match the correct criteria for the market study. This is a highly unfair feature that you must bear in mind.
Lastly, for some unknown reason, many members have had their accounts deleted alongside their currency balance and have not been able to get their accounts back. There is no explanation for this, and e-Rewards has not addressed the issue, but the number of people who have experienced account deletion is far too great to be any good.
Is the time spent in e-Rewards filling surveys time well spent? In my opinion, it is not.
Although it is not at all close to being the worst paid survey website, there is no way to make cash with e-Rewards because this is not how they work. So, if you are looking for a site that will allow you to transfer your money to a PayPal account or get a check mailed to your house, e-Rewards is not the place for you.
Given the chance that what you want is just to get a Best Buy gift card, or exchange your money for airline miles, then maybe this particular market research panel can be useful to you.
However, you must remember that in order to become a member, you need to get invited in the first place, which means that you will have to find your way into their membership.
